Itinerary
Arrival in Lima. Airport pick-up and transfer
to Hotel. Free time to rest. Overnight in "Hotel Embajadores", in Lima.
Day 2
From Lima we
travel by bus to
Huaraz (3,090 m.a.s.l.), a bustling city in the Peruvian Highlands, at the
feet of the Cordillera Blanca. Free time to acclimatize and rest. Night in "Hotel
Andino", in Huaraz.

Day 3
We leave Huaraz by bus in the morning, stopping
at Yungay, the starting point of our excursion on unpaved road to the sacred Lagunas de
Llanganuco. Shortly before arrival, we
shall stop to a control point of the Huascarán National Park rangers. Ritual offering to the
spirits of the Lagoons. Return to Huaraz in the afternoon. Overnight in "Hotel
Andino",
in Huaraz.
The Lagunas de
Llanganuco, Chinacocha ("female lagoon") and
OrconCocha ("male lagoon"), are two beautiful, pristine lakes set in a narrow
glacial valley, between the glaciers of Huascarán (6,655 m.a.s.l.) and Huandoy
(6,160 m.a.s.l., Cordillera Blanca), forming part of the Huascarán Biosphere
Reservation. The turquoise-colored waters of these splendid lagoons glow in
midday sun, as result of the glacial sediments.
The banks of the "female lagoon" are surrounded by a luscious forest of rare Polylepis
trees, an evergreen species native of the high Andes,
locally known as "queñoa". It's very windy here and it may get very cold! Be prepared to wear warm, wind-proof clothing!

Day 4
We leave Huaraz in the
morning, directed to Chavin de Huántar (3,810 m.a.s.l.), the birth-place and
"Mother" of all ancient Andean civilizations, which came into being more than
2,000 years before the arrival of the Incas. Arrival to Chavín de Huántar.
Exploration of the ruins of this ancient labyrinthic complex, dedicated to the
cult of the Jaguar-God. Here, in the circular sunken plaza of Chavin, was
found the
first ever raffiguration of the San Pedro cactus. All night San
Pedro ritual, in the sunken plaza encompassing the Chavin Temple, with Don
Pedro Leon. Overnight (early morning...) in "Hotel La Casona", in Chavin.

Day 5
Rest in Hotel in Chavín. Later during the day, walk around the village and/or
the nearby ruins. In the afternoon, travelling back by bus to Huaraz. Arrival
in Lima at night. Overnight in "Hotel Embajadores", in Lima.
Day 6
Free time to rest, in Lima. Evening flight to the jungle city of Tarapoto.
Overnight in "Hotel Puerto Palmeras", in Tarapoto.
Day 7
Full day to the beautiful waterfalls of Awashiyacu. Ayahuasca ceremony at
night, with Don Pedro Leon.
Overnight in "Hotel Puerto Palmeras", in Tarapoto.

Day 8
Am: Free time to rest. Afternoon walks in
the surroundings. Travel overland to Chachapoyas, in the vast Department of
Amazonas. Arrival in Chachapoyas, the land of "eternal spring". Overnight in
"Hotel La Estancia", in Chachapoyas.
Chachapoyas - nicknamed "la ceja de la
selva", i.e. "the eyebrow of the Amazon" - was the land of the mysterious
Cloud People or "Chachapoyans", of whom little is known. A cloud
forest enshrouded in eternal mists, bursting with waterfalls, orchids,
bromeliads, medicinal plants and hummingbirds all over, on the edges of the
Amazon Basin.
Day 9
Am: Free time to rest. Pm: Afternoon walk
in the surroundings of Chachapoyas. Overnight in "Hotel La Estancia", in
Chachapoyas.
Day 10
All day visit to Kuelap, the Machu
Picchu of Northern Peru! Ritual offering. Ayahuasca ceremony, at night, with
Don Pedro Leon. Overnight in "Hotel La Estancia", in Chachapoyas.
The mysterious "Fortress" of Kuelap, built around
800 CE, is the largest stone building of the Americas, and it may have been
created to resist the invasion of the mighty Huari (or Tihuanaco) Empire which
began - at almost the same time - its expansion from Bolivia. There are some
mysterious, gravity-defying structures inside Kuelap, like the large
cone-shaped stone building, believed to be - by some - an oracle and/or an
astronomical observatory, from where the shaman-priest inside watched the
movements of the celestial bodies, to mark the passing of time for a special
event taking place during the year.
When Kuelap was discovered, it was even better preserved than Machu Picchu!
Built on the top of a high mountain, secluded, remote and plunged into a
wonderful pristine cloudforest, it remains relatively unknown to our days.
Day 11
Am: Rest!! Overland transfer to Chiclayo,
at 11 am. Overnight in "Gran Hotel Chiclayo", in Chiclayo.

Day 12
Free time to rest. In the late morning we get the bus to go to the beach, at
about one hour from Chiclayo,. where we shall have lunch. In the afternoon, we
travel via bus to Tucume, in the Lambayeque Valley, 33 km from Chiclayo.
Optional visit to the local Museum and to the pyramids. Overnight in
Tucume, in "Hostal de los Horcones".
Ancient Tucume, also known as the
“Valley of the 26 Pyramids”, was an impressive city of temple-mounds,
and plazas built by the Lambayeque civilization in the 11th century (CE), and
later conquered by the Chimú people, around 1350 (CE). The beautiful Moche
Temples of the Sun and the Moon are just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean,
near the vast pre-Columbian archaeological complex of Chan Chan, the largest
mud-brick city of the world and capital of the Chimú Empire.

Day 13
Travel from Tucume to Sipan, via Chiclayo. Full day in Sipan. In the
afternoon, visit to the "Royal Thumbs of Sipan" Museum, dedicated to he
discovery of the Lord of Sipan Thumbs, probably the most important of the
whole South America. All night ritual with the San Pedro, with Don Pedro Leon.
Overnight (or better, early morning!) in Tucume, in "Hostal de los Horcones".
Day 14
Free time to rest. We travel from Tucume to Trujillo, via Chiclayo (this trip
takes about 3 hours). Later transfer to the nearby sea-resort of Huanchaco,
where there is the best vegetarian restaurant of Peru! Overnight in "Caballito
de Totora Hotel", in Huanchaco.
Day 15
Walk around Trujillo. Visit to the archaeological complexes of Chan Chan, the
"Huacas del Sol y de la Luna", and "El Brujo". Transfer to Huanchaco.
Overnight in "Caballito de Totora Hotel", in Huanchaco.
Day 16
We shall spend the morning of our last day with Don Pedro in the beach of
Huanchaco. In the afternoon, we return to Trujillo, from where we shall take
the latest flight to Lima (currently leaving at 9 pm). Arrival in Lima at
night, and transfer to Hotel. Overnight in "Hotel Embajadores", in Lima.
Day 17
