Machu Picchu: The Ancestral
Bird
According to author
F. Salazar, the map of
the sanctuary may resemble the figure of a mythical bird, the Lluli, who
- according to legend - was sent by the Sun each time that on earth there were
periods of upheaval and disorder. The mere presence of this bird in the sky
would dissipate any feeling of hostility, war or conflict, and induced feelings
of love. It is indeed
undisputed the fact that the magical atmosphere of the Sanctuary stimulates -
even to our days - sentiments of inner peace and deep tranquillity, in those who
go there. The vibrational energy emanating from Machu Picchu is one of purity,
pure balance and deep harmony.

Machu Picchu
or Machu Pichiu? The Cosmic Bird
Salazar wonders at the
possibility that the original name of this place could have been that of the
mythical old bird that it might resembles. In the reverse image above, we may
see - according to Salazar - the shape of an old Condor flying West.
Quoting
Diego Gonzales Holguin, our
author points at the fact that in Quechua, the original language of the Incas,
the words Machu Pichiu describe an Old Bird, the protector spirit
of peace for mankind. A mythical bird that from the beginning of the Sacred
Valley, in Pisac, flies towards North-East, and then in the extreme point of its
route, where Machu Picchu is, continue its flight towards West.
The Urubamba river was for the Incas the earthly
counterpart of the heavenly river, the Milky Way. Towards West, where the
Sun dies, head the waters of the Sacred River - the Rio Urubamba (along which
are are located Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu) - and from here the Incas
believed that the Milky Way, the Celestial River, was reborn.
